Jon Steadland, Ph.D. is a senior executive and management consultant with more than twenty years of experience advising governing boards, chief executives, and leadership teams in large, complex public institutions. In his role with Portage Partners, he works with organizations on governance effectiveness, organizational strategy, operational design, and leadership transitions. Jon's expertise in institutional governance is both practical and scholarly — he has advised and supported university governing boards at the highest levels, including seven years in the University of Minnesota's Office of the Board of Regents, and his doctoral research examined the dynamics of board behavior and institutional oversight in depth. His career also includes two terms as Chief of Staff to the University of Minnesota President, where he directed enterprise-wide priorities across a 25,000-employee, multi-campus organization, and additional senior leadership roles at the University of Minnesota Foundation and the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain. Jon holds a Ph.D. and Master of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota.
