This is not another paperwork exercise; this is about practical, on-the-ground work with your leadership team, staff, students, parents and community partners to define and achieve a better future.
World's Best Workforce Plan
Every year, districts in Minnesota, including charter schools, are required to file a summary of their ‘World’s Best Workforce’ (WBWF) results, action plan and associated community engagement activities. This reporting requirement can easily feel like it’s not worth the effort - that it is taking valuable time away from the important work of students in classrooms. Why not leverage this reporting requirement to get your district on the path to success? A clear, well-understood map for the future along with the right management structures for implementation are critical for a district to be successful. Create and implement a plan worthy of the world’s best workforce!
Teacher-Led / Autonomous Schools
Based on the belief that the people closest to students know best how to serve their particular community, there is a movement in PreK-12 public education toward granting autonomies directly to educators and stakeholders at public school sites. Frequently, when teams of teachers, parents and other stakeholders come together to apply to their district for autonomies, they find that they have a shared overall vision, but they don’t have a good process for having the key conversations and making necessary decisions. Portage Partners can take the planning coordination burden off your plate so that your team is freed up to really participate in the process instead of being bogged down in coordination and facilitation.
School Improvement Plan
All schools are required to create some sort of plan for improving student outcomes, either to comply with funder regulations or a district mandate. At a minimum, creating a budget each year is a time when school leaders need to make choices about future priorities. But in the midst of keeping a school running every day it is hard to find the time to engage in meaningful conversations about the future with teachers, staff, students, parents and community partners. Portage Partners can help you create a clear, well-understood map for the future along with the right management structures for implementation so your school can be successful. Chart the course forward for your school instead of letting the future be defined for you.
Every year, there are numerous instances when school districts and individual schools need to engage in an organized conversation with their staff, students, parents and community partners on critical topics like a curriculum change or budget proposal. Without this input, districts and schools risk creating solutions in a vacuum and miss the opportunity to build stakeholder buy-in. The challenge is how to structure these conversations so that they are inclusive, manageable AND result in actionable feedback. Let Portage Partners design and facilitate community engagement events that generate meaningful and actionable input on your district's or school’s important questions.
What Education Leaders Are Saying
"Meredith shows initiative in identifying organizational challenges, listens carefully to organizational and personal interests, creatively crafts options for leadership to consider and works collaboratively with leadership to effectively implement the solutions."
"Portage Partners helped me organize my school priorities and establish a sustainable system that allows me to progress monitor and routinely evaluate the priorities. In addition, they helped me design and implement a process that allowed for a five year strategic plan involving input from students, parents, staff, and community members. As a new principal, you have made my job much easier in terms of establishing a system for data review and accountability. You have also allowed me to lead through my vision while getting voices from others to determine the direction of the school for the next five years. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Portage Partners to my colleagues!"
"Meredith did a great job developing a strategic plan for our district. She was able to assemble the right stakeholders and achieve consensus on the plan."
"Meredith was able to assemble the right stockholders and achieve consensus on our plan for our transportation department. Meredith's understanding of how to identify the problem and facilitate a process that involved multiple stakeholders to solve the problem was key for our school district. I would rate the solution a 10 out of 10."
"We had a very ambitious strategic plan, but lacked the knowledge and skills to create focused project plans and implementation metrics. We also had to battle the inertia of a large and bureaucratic system. Through Meredith’s work with us, the team increased their ability to focus, prioritize and document progress. We became much more intentional at monitoring our progress on key projects, and as a result we did much deeper learning about the impact of our initiatives. We became more nimble, more proactive, and more reflective. We also learned to pair new skills in project management with a growing understanding of change management.
